Cleaned my room

August 20th, 2012 at 01:22 am

It's pretty quiet now that we no longer have cable. We made it to the library and checked out some books and dvd's but I've found myself to be more active. I cleaned my room and now I'm thinking about decorating ideas. I'd like to put a picture over my bed and I need something along the blank wall but I'm not sure what. A nice walk way rug would be nice too. If you have any suggestions let me know.

I think some kind of picture that picks up on the colors from your bed covering and carpet would be beautiful. Lovely woodwork by the way.

Your bed cover appears to be a beautiful deep burgundy color. One easy and inexpensive solution would be to buy 3 ' large 'stretcher' frames which are available from an art supply house, likely less expensive from an on-line supplier. These come in pieces - top, bottom, sides and middle support and are easily assembled, tapped with a mallet or lightly with a hammer.

Step 2: Go to any fabric shop with the dimensions of your 3 assembled stretcher frames and choose fabric or remment with a design or swirls of color that include the color of your bed cover and carpet color. Ask for cuts that are 4 inches larger than the dimensions of the frame.

Staple the fabric to the frame starting with top and s-t-r-e-t-c-h fabric taunt to the bottom of the frame and staple every 1/2 inch. Repeat the process at side one and then side 2. The trickiest part is the corners which are cut on an 'L' and stapled neatly.

This is truly a DIY and it's fun. I've also seen it down with heavy gift wrap! You will need a good, heavy duty stapler.

Sorry, forgot to say this was for the empty wall, and are hung so that the middle of the picture is just a midge above your eye level. Most people tend to hang pictures and art work far to high. Check at the art supply outlet, I thought I read the mid point of the picture was placed 64" up from the floor.

Hey, I have a few ideas but Snafu's idea sound lovely. Maybe some shelves above the bed to hold your beautiful items. It looks like the curtains are blue and don't show as well as the bedroom furniture which is beautiful. Perhaps you can give them a tea bath to tone down the blue.

A cheap and cheerful idea above the bed would be to draw out colours from Snafu's panel ideas. Buy a large blank canvass. Purchase a few small bottles of acrylic craft paint. Find various sizes of round jars or lids. Paint the canvas a nice background and let dry. Dip the circular lids in you paint that matches Snafu's fabric. Put the circles on the canvas. A few or many depending on how you are moved by it. Let it dry and mount it above the bed. Even using the eraser side of a pencil dipped in paint will make a nice effect. The most important point is to enjoy the process so you love the final products.

You seem to have lots of space at the foot of your bed. I'd look for a nice bench to put there. It's always nice to be able to sit down and put on or take off your shoes. This could be a thrift store find, or you could construct one easily. On a frugal design show, a dining chair with a broken back was sawed in two; then a board was nailed to create the top. A little padding, some fabric and staples--you have a bench. I personally used an old closet door and some big box store legs to make my base.
Snafu had the same idea that I had about the wall art. You don't have to buy stretcher frames, although they would work best. Any frame will do, staple the fabric or tape it to poster board cut to fit the frame. I did that and used a frame I had already to mount some quilt squares.
