Home $1543
Total $3897

Glad you saved cash, but I'm in sticker shock on your costs! We pay about $840 per year for two vehicles and two drivers. Our home insurance is about $675 on a $240K home.

Do you have a teen driver? If you know, I'm just curious why it is so high in your area?

Yes, I have a teen driver. Full coverage on both vehicles and not the bare minimum coverage. I'm sure area plays into it.

Those costs have me a bit worried for a friend that just moved to the Houston area. She hasn't said anything, so maybe hers aren't as high.

I need to check on our homeowners insurance which is coming up. Ours is about $975, which seems very high to me.

Oh my, is that what I have in store as soon as J gets his license? Gulp!

    Congrats on the $709.20 Smile

Delighted you were able to get good insurance coverage for lower cost by using an independent insurance broker. I suggest verifying you can use your American coverage for auto rental in Italy. That auto rental insurance seems such a rip off when you multiply the daily rate times 365! It's been my experience that in some regions they only allow one . You can always use your ATM card to access local currency but there are lots of fees over and above exchange rates. It takes some research to isolate the less expensive options.

sorry, my 'puter seems to be losing sentences...some agencies only allow one, registered driver.

Your self directed travel sounds terrific. The food, the wine, the gelato and the wonderful, kind locals all conspire to make the trip memorable. If language is a barrier you can always join an established tour for a fee. I suggest you start watching exchange rates [Dollars to Euros] . Here are the other companies that I received quotes from. I asked a friend last night about how much they pay which turned out to be cheaper but they live in Pearland, TX.

    Nationwide
    Auto-2875.20
    Home-1731
    Total-4606.20

    State Farm
    Auto-1734.96
    Home-2303
    Total-4037.96

    Farmers
    Auto-3966
    Home-1964
    Total-5930

Snafu-I will definitely take a look at the American auto coverage and see how/if it will apply in Italy. Good call on the tour guides! I will make contact with a few so that I have their info on hand and know their availability if I decide to use one.
